Just as a sports team must be well-prepared before entering a big game, a church must also ensure it is ready for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. In this article, we will explore two crucial factors to consider when determining if your church is ready for a capital campaign: spiritual preparedness and church harmony.

1. Spiritual Preparedness:

When it comes to achieving success in any significant endeavor, spiritual preparedness should never be overlooked. Often, we can become so focused on intellectual and logistical aspects that we forget the essential role of prayer and fasting. It is through spiritual preparation that we invite the Holy Spirit to guide and empower us.

2. Assessing Church Harmony:

Before launching a capital campaign, it is essential to assess the overall harmony within the church. This assessment should be conducted both objectively and subjectively to ensure an accurate understanding of the church’s dynamics. Consider employing a comprehensive approach, including a feasibility study, which may take some time but can help identify potential pitfalls that could lead to disaster. Here is a suggested approach:

a. Individual Interviews:

Conduct one-on-one interviews with a diverse cross-section of the church. Gather feedback, concerns, and suggestions, summarizing them in a report that includes verbatim comments.

b. Focus Groups:

Organize focus groups led by a professional who is not a church member. Ensure representation from all segments of the church, allowing participants to answer questions anonymously. This provides a safe space for individuals to express their thoughts openly and honestly.

c. All-Church Survey:

Administer a comprehensive survey to the entire congregation, encouraging candid responses. This survey will provide valuable insights into the overall sentiment and opinions of the church community.

By completing both the spiritual preparedness and the clinical assessment, you will be equipped to develop a campaign plan tailored to your church’s specific needs. This comprehensive approach will significantly increase the likelihood of success, as you will have addressed potential challenges and cultivated unity within the church.
